Founded in 18th November, 1879 by 23 members among the first graduates of Imperial College of Engineering (the predecessor of Faculty of Engineering at the University of Tokyo)

Became an incorporated association

Changed and reorganized the membership structure previously based on individual members to current organization-based membership system consisted of professional societies
1929
Sponsored the World Engineering Congress in Tokyo
1972
Joined the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO)
1979
Celebrated the 100th Anniversary of the foundation of JFES inviting the Crown Prince and Princess
2015
Hosted the World Engineering Conference and Convention (WECC2015) at Kyoto
